The Obamas personally advocated for the Olympics…

…but the Olympics won’t be coming to Chicago.

Is there any way to see this as anything other than a slap in the Obamas’ and America’s faces?

Maybe people don’t realize that the Olympic bid wasn’t Obama’s brain child, but the right wing is cheering it as a huge failure of his.

What I find extremely disconcerting is that they want Obama to fail. People didn’t want Bush to fail when he took office. It took years of his own misguided policies to create his own failure.

My only conclusion is that, after eight years of Bush, the ultra conservative wing doesn’t just want Obama to fail. They need Obama to fail. If only to rekindle the faith Bush destroyed in their own social-political belief system.

    Two thoughts:

1.) Considering many, many people thought George Bush literally stole the election for his first term, I would speculate that there were plenty of people who wanted Bush to fail when he took office.

2.) I, agree that I think the Republicans do need Obama to fail. But I think that’s always true of the party out of power. If the party in power doesn’t screw up, the electorate is unlikely to send them packing. ;)

Wanting a president to fail to enact his policies is different than wanting a president to fail. I’ll be the first to say plenty of people wanted Bush to fail to implement his tax cuts. They wanted Bush to fail to start a war with Iraq.

But I’ll wager that the vast majority of people didn’t want Bush to fail to keep the economy in check. They didn’t want Bush to fail to keep Americans from losing jobs.

But currently, conservatives do want Obama to fail. They don’t just want Obama to fail in implementing his policies. They want Obama to fail to jump start the economy. They want Obama to fail to create new jobs. In the current political atmosphere, I can easily see them absolutely cheering at another 9/11.

Seriously compare that and, while being completely honest with yourself, say whether you think the current mentality from the right is remotely similar to the left wing mentality when Bush first took office.

I honestly remembered it being pretty raw up until 9/11 changed everything, but I think it’s worse now. But part of the reason why it’s worse is I think the Left wore down some of the barriers of decorum while protesting the Iraq war.

But opinions like that are bound to be nearly uncontrollably subjective.
