This Spider-Man was pretty amazing

July 9th, 2012

I think I actually liked the new The Amazing Spider-Man better than Sam Rammi’s first one.

Now looking forward to the inevitable cross-over into an Ironman or Avengers movie…you know that’s why they rebooted the series, right?

I thought they rebooted the series because they can’t think of anything new, and want to keep the Happy Meal money rolling in

No, Sony rebooted the series so they would continue to have the movie rights to the character without having to return them to Marvel (and Disney, which owns Marvel). Sony lost the TV rights to Spider-Man a few years ago, so they realized they needed to pump out another movie to preserve the movie rights to the characters.

As for any “crossover,” that’s unlikely because of the movie rights issues. Which is a shame, because I would really love to see Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man interacting with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in the next “Avengers” film.

Crap. I forgot about the rights situation. Now, I’m depressed. I was looking forward to the Hulk swinging Spidey around by a web strand. Sigh.

Same with 20th Century Fox and the X-Men or Fantastic Four. They own those movie rights as well.

It’s actually one of the reasons it’s said that Fox is trying to pump out another “X-Men: Origins – Wolverine” movie. As long as they do one movie with one of those characters, they have the entire X-Men franchise.

Though, with the way things are going, Fox may give Marvel back the rights to the FF. There was talk of a reboot of that franchise too, but it never got off the ground.
