…I heard a story about how Republicans in the Senate were holding up many of Barack Obama’s appointments including two members of the Marine Mammal Commission.

I think the more important question to ask is why the hell do we even have a Marine Mammal Commission?

Somehow, viagra sales look I don’t think that’s what the founders had in mind when they decided to establish a federal government with limited powers.

Worried about the MMC? Why stop there? How about the International Pacific Halibut Commission? I see it as geometric (if not fractal) increases in communication complexity. You can’t wish for the USA to grow without causing well-meaning folks to want to oversee their particular fiefdoms and/or potential tragedies of the commons. Put a bunch of retirees around a lake and before you know it, you’ll have a lake management district, even if they vote Republican. If you wish for your suburb to grow, you’re going to have tipping points where you’ll need new schools, lift stations, roads, snow plows, etc.
