Nick is shocked that cops use Tasers on unarmed subjects

November 16th, 2007

In an interesting post about Tasers at The World According to Nick, viagra sales shop Nick writes:

“The truly frightening statistic is that the majority of times that tasers are used, cialis sale recipe they are used on unarmed individuals.”

Of course, the people who get tased are often unarmed.

Cops ALWAYS look to create a disparity of force.

They respond to unarmed suspects with tasers or pepper spray or batons.

They escalate to pistols when facing a suspect with a knife.

They grab shotguns and rifles when they know the bad guy has a gun.

Cops aren’t interested in a fair fight.

They are not interested in wrestling with someone who may or may not be armed – a situation that can lead to the cop being disarmed, shot with their own weapon, or even bit by someone with AIDS.

They’re interested in ending the confrontation and ending it fast.

Tasers may or may not be an appropriate tool for law enforcement. But the criticism that they are often used against unarmed individuals fails to recognize just how deadly an “unarmed” man can be.

My main point, which I suppose may not have come across properly, was to dispell the popular myth that tasers are used on people instead of shooting them with a gun.

Cops don’t bring tazers to a gunfight.

As for nonlethal force, before tazers there was only spray (that could easily blow back on you), or the baton (which required very close-quarters action).

Outside these, a firearm was all a cop had.

I’d say there are fewer shootings and fewer officer injuries since the implementation of tazers.

A cops first priority is to make home after his/her shift. If you are unarmed and committing a crime and you get tazed, too freakin’ bad.
It’s part of the criminal experience. You do bad things, expect bad things to happen and you have NO right to bitch.

Silent E, the ACLU would disagree with you, and strongly. I, on the other hand, agree completely.

Never mind all of that. In the case Nick showed the Police came in a killed an unarmed, confused citizen. Since when is it the job of law enforcement to butcher the confused?

Airport Security, for all of their failings, had the situation in hand and had asked for help. These cops came in and, using whatever tools they had, began shooting with their Tasers.

In the words of RJ Daley, “The Police are not there to create disorder. The Police are there to maintain disorder.”

These cops were wrong in the way they handled the situation.
