I’ve heard folks who are in favor of keeping law-abiding citizens unarmed…

February 18th, 2008

…say that carrying a gun won’t do you any good if someone is already pointing one at you.

Maybe they should talk to the police trainee who drew on and killed the shotgun-wielding teen who was trying to rob him.

    A) The story doesn’t say if the gun was pointed at the officer at the time of the shooting.

    B) The officer was also a former marine. They are usually highly trained in the use of weapons. That is a lot different than Barney Fifes pretending to be John Wayne.

    C) An antecdote does not make a convincing argument. There are stories of people disarming gunmen with their bare hands. Still not a recommended course of action.

How do you know this post was meant for you, Cap? ;)

Oh, a squeaky wheelchair told me. :)

Does not make a convincing argument?

I concealed carry every day, every time I leave the house, everywhere I go. I would much rather “take my chances” being armed with an armed goblin in front of me than I would being disarmed and completely at the goblin’s will.

Well, then, Sham, I’m glad I don’t live in your state.

I’ve never carried a concealed, never been robbed, never been killed. And I’ve never had to worry about some yahoo shooting me in the back while they play hero.

People like Capper amaze me if you do not want to defend yourself then fine but what gives you the right to leave the rest of us defenseless?

Much better to get shot by the robber after you have handed over your wallet or wife then to defend yourself at least no one else will be hurt right Capper

How do you know the former Marine was not a cook or a clerk who had not touched a weapon since basic?

Yes you have never been in a situation where you needed a gun in your life good for you some of us are not that lucky I have worked in areas of Gary IN and Milwaukee where I carried a gun every day when I went to work Permit be damed I intended to come home every night.

I hope you never need to defend yourself capper and I feel sorry for you and your family if the need ever arrives because you have already decided to be a victim.

I also like how you disparage small town police officers as wanting to be John Wayne do you have any idea how little those guys make and half the shit they put up with day in and day out.

Chris, I know he wasn’t a cook, because I read the article.

I have worked for the past two decades in places like 28th and Highland and 34th and Wells. The only time I was victimized was when someone vandalized my car in West Allis. I did not need a gun, because I was smart, avoided obvious bad situations, and treated people with respect, even if they didn’t necessarily deserve it.

The reference to Barney Fife was in regards to the fact that he was so inept with his sidearm.

And your right to self-defense ends when it is a danger to me and my family.
