I assume you’ve seen this graph?

Folkbum,
Both the EIC and Making Work Count did not get a good review from the author of the report.
While it may give an incentive to childless couples on the low end – under $8,000, it has the opposite effect on the larger group of low income workers. It creates a big enough tax shift to discourage low income workers fro working more. Truth be told this is really directed at the middle class. Many who would benefit from such a program are students, stay at home parents, etc.
If Obama was truly serious about helping the working class he would extend the no taxes for those under $50,000 to all Americans.
It is pretty silly talking about McCain’s economic plan because it will never be implemented. Congress will be strongly Democratic so McCain’s damage is more or less constrained by the Democrats themselves.

HD, this may be the most ridiculous sentence I’ve ever read:
It creates a big enough tax shift to discourage low income workers fro working more.
Yes, I can see it now: All those poor schlubs telling their bosse, “No sir, I would like to decline this raise, because the tax code has disincentivized my upward mobility.” Or “No ma’am, I would not like to be assistant manager, as I’m afraid that would push me into the top quintile of wage earners and my taxes would rise sharply.”
Please.

You’ve obviously never met a poor schlub on a) unemployment, b) disability, or c) BadgerCare. I have seen people, first hand, decline raises just to keep themselves eligible for the above three. Not everybody has that “upward mobility” mentality that some of us take for granted.

Fuzz, if you qualify for a, b, or c, your taxes won’t be going up under Obama, regardless of what small moves up you might accept.
