I went through a Renaissance, today.

August 11th, 2007

I spent the day watching knights at the Bristol Renaissance Fair.

    Dear Eliot:

I’m always amused at people like you. Not solutions, not ideas, no plans, yet everything from “lefties” is bad. In the last twenty years, people of your ilk have laid off over 5 million Americans, destroyed America’s world dominance in manufacturing. Because of your short-sighted approach, the next generation will not have the life you and I have had and they have been set up to fail by a sub-standard education system. You want a global economy, then be sure and have the resources to compete. You have made sure that we don’t.

And yet when questioned you always point to the democrats. From Ronald Reagan through the Bushes, your party has consistently failed in any kind of vision for this country. “No Taxes” is not a vision. Thanks to your economic policies the gap between rich and poor has widened with a smaller percentage of the wealthy holding more of the country’s wealth.

And yet it’s always the “lefties” and the Democrats’ fault. Take a good hard look, my friend, at your party. And don’t question my patriotism. I am a Vietnam era veteran, and have been a good citizen. I don’t expect any response. Cowardliness to engage in any meaningful dialog is another hallmark of Republicans.

    Hi Gene,

Sort of an odd post to leave this comment on, but that’s OK.

    Welcome to From Where Sit.

I suppose I should clear a few things up for you:

1.) I’m not a Republican. I’m more of a Libertarian than anything else.

2.) I’m not an economist, so I don’t have an educated opinion on free trade versus protectionism. If you search the site, I don’t think you find many posts on those topics.

3.) I think the Right have gotten many, many things wrong, but you’re correct that most of my ire is reserved for the mistakes of the Left.

4.) What’s the alternative to a wealth gap between rich and poor? No gap? That’s communism and it doesn’t work. Without financial rewards for working harder or smarter, everyone does the absolute minimum they can get away with and society as a whole suffers.

In general, I think the people who come here are very intelligent and willing to have a civil discussion about their disagreements. I just ask people to respect each other while they make their arguments.

Again, welcome to From Where I Sit. Nice meeting you.
