I like the texture of the font of the title on the first one, but prefer it to be red. I like the fetal position of the chalk person, it really fits.

I don’t comprehend the lines on the second one. Is it a street? A parking lot? Do people park on top of steaming manhole covers? :) I like the manhole steam thing, but I would eliminate one yellow line from each set or make it look like a road with one solid line and one dotted line. Unless it’s supposed to be a parking lot, in which case, I would make the lines more “parking lottish.” Does that make sense?

I would combine the two–use the font of the first one, but in red, and just make the change to the yellow lines.

Regardless, I’m excited to read the book. Not so much because the cover is nice, but because of the author. I hear he’s pretty good.

I like the first one. I find the red a little distracting.

I have to say the second version grabs my attention. The red along with the font used for the author’s name and title scream thriller. It’s telling me that something’s going to happen and it’s not going to be good. The sewer gas along with the dark pavement gives it a murderous feel.

The first version is nice but it doesn’t seem to tell me much about the book. Also, it seems like the font used for the author’s name would be seen on a book like Tuesdays With Morrie. Something too nice for this story.

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover but if I had to, I’d definitely choose the second one.

Hands down, the first one. It’s great. Second one is a little too busy. I’d pick the first one off the shelf … even if I didn’t know it was your book.

It depends. If you want to sell books, the bottom one. If you want to sell doorstops and paperweights, the top.
