Are my friends on the Left starting to dred Fred?
June 5th, 2007
Let me start by saying I think there’s a snowball’s chance that the Republicans will keep the Whitehouse.
That said, viagra generic cialis I find it fascinating that two of the better Leftie bloggers in the Cheddarsphere are already sharpening their knives and going after Republican phantom-presidential-candidate
Grumps at The Happy Circumstance thinks Fred looks like Veg-O-Matic inventer Ron Popeil.
Jay of folkbum’s rambles and rants has a couple of posts about Fred including dismissing Fred as just an actor.
And left-leaning newsmagazine Newsweek wants us to know that Fred Thomspon is lazy.
To me, ask that’s a sign that at least some folks on the Left are a little worried that Fred might enter the race…and that’s a good enough reason for me to hope that he does.

They do seem to be getting nervous real fast. They didn’t get this excited at the other Republican candidates.

Please don’t misconstrue my reaction. I’m fairly certain that the GOP will grasp at straws and manage to hang onto the last one. FT has as good a chance as any other R in this cycle.
The fact that so many Republicans are turning up their noses at the smorgasbord of announced candidates to hang their deperate hopes on another actor is telling. They hope that they can go back to the “good-old-big-government feel-good” days of Ron and Nancy.
Fred Thompson has what so many of the other R’s don’t. He’s likable and has built a plain-spoken home-spun image for himself. Wingers who berate John Edwards for being who he is will venerate Thompson for appearing to be who he isn’t.
Thompson has declared himself to be an Internet phenom so the corporate media go ahead and nod their heads and annoint him as the GOP Internet candidate. He still has to prove that he can bring in the coin that will push his message across. I can guarantee that a rented pickup won’t be enough to do that for long.
We’re not laughing AT the Republicans for their disarray. We’re laughing near them because we’ve been there, too.

A Thompson (both Fred and Tommy) agnostic.
