Nick from The World According to Nick watched last night’s presidential debate with some folks at Drinking Liberally (where left-leaning bloggers get together).
He noted one moment in particular:

This was simply a stupid topic to talk about. McCain sounded hurt, viagra sale levitra but not very convincingly… and the reality is… both parties are at fault here. McCain did do a good job hitting Obama on his broken promise to take federal funds, site but thats about all that was good here.
This is also where Drinking Liberally turned a little nasty and I had to step out for a few minutes before I lost control. I said something to someone next to me regarding how both sides are being nasty, and he brought up some of the McCain attacks, and seemed to think Obama supporters were clean. I said that “Nobody is clean here. Look at the people who are calling Sarah Palin a cunt”. He then looked me straight in the face (with his girlfriend right next to him) and said “But Sarah Palin is a cunt.” I almost lost it right there. I simply responded with “Then you are no better than anyone else”, and walked out for a few minutes.
I have a low opinion of Hillary Clinton, but I would never refer to her as the “c” word.
The fact that someone who would probably identify himself as a feminist would think that it’s ever appropriate to call a woman that word is just staggering to me.

…Capper at Cognitive Dissidence apparently believes that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is “right wing propaganda.”
I’ll bet $200 right now that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will endorse Barack Obama for President in the coming weeks.
And if Capper can continue to believe that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is a right wing rag after that, viagra ampoule I guess he really is suffering from cognitive dissonance over there at Cognitive Dissidence.

If you’re going to spend your days complaining how the media is supposedly liberally biased, cialis sale view then become a journalist. Ask yourself why those journalists happen to have (perceived) biases (for instance, are you seriously claiming that when they’re hired they’re given some kind of political litmus test?), and why so few conservatives are willing to do the legwork journalism on their own. What is it about journalism, in your mind, that is inherently liberally biased? Don’t just start with the assumption that it’s true. What is your hypothesis for why it’s true? And, in your opinion, why is it that these journalists, the people who are getting the information firsthand, directly from the sources, conducting the most research into topics as a group, happen to side with the left? Why are academics, another group constantly attacked by the right as being biased, the most educated in their fields, usually left of center? Why are scientists, yet another group constantly attacked by the right as being biased, who also happen to be incredibly knowledgeable in their fields, usually left of center?
CNN’s 2006 exit poll did show that 58% of folks with graduate degrees voted for Democrats that year compared to just 41% that voted for Republicans.
I guess that 41% was comprised entirely of the dumb graduate students.
Seriously, the “I’m Liberal, because I’m smart and know more than everyone else” meme’s got to end.
There are some very intelligent Liberals (Barack Obama, for example) and some brilliant Conservatives (George Will and Antonin Scalia come to mind). Neither political philosophy has a monopoly on intelligent adherents. There are many reasons people choose a political philosophy. I suspect that native intelligence and level of education may actually be two of the least important factors.
Besides, everyone knows the most intelligent folks are all Libertarians like me, but that’s a topic for another post. ;)

I’ve been using Twitter for a while now.
And while I agree with people who think the social networking site is mostly a narcissistic time-waster, cialis sales cure I have found one great use for it: following news feeds.
Many national and international news organizations have a Twitter feed that links back to breaking stories.

Plus, it helps me put DIGG on the back burner a little bit.
Which is good, because I can only stomach the wisdom of the 16-year-old crowd so long.

Wisconsin blogger Michael Mathias is someone I don’t understand at all.
That’s not to say he’s a bad human being.
We just share hardly any mental common ground.

The Milwaukee School Board voted Thursday night to begin looking into dissolving the Milwaukee Public Schools system.
The completely unexpected 6-to-3 vote followed a gloomy assessment of the short- and long-term financial situation of MPS from Superintendent William Andrekopoulos and several board members.
The resolution called for the administration to examine state and federal guidelines for dissolving the school district and who would be responsible for educating children in Milwaukee if that happened.
Voting for the resolution were board members Danny Goldberg, sildenafil purchase Jennifer Morales, Jeff Spence, Bruce Thompson, Terry Falk and Tim Petersons. Voting against were Peter Blewett, Michael Bonds and Charlene Hardin.
We should be hearing nothing but praise for the move from the usual suspects, right? Isn’t this what Tim Sheehy and the members of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce have been hoping for all these years?
Wasn’t this the desired outcome when we introduced “competition” into the education system by awarding taxpayer dollars to “schools” (i.e. the Little Beating Heart of Academic Excellence Academy) that didn’t have to follows the same standards MPS operates under in either teacher compensation or benefits, or testing or reporting, or educating special education students or students who were disciplinary problems?
To me, this post illustrates two misunderstandings:
- Michael doesn’t seem to understand that nothing is more important to a business than educated workers and consumers. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard a business owner express dismay that they had to retrain a new hire to do the simplest things. Businesses WANT education to work and businesses are the entities that suffer second most when it does not. (The people who suffer the most are the ones who fail to get/achieve a decent education.)
- The second misunderstanding is that business is somehow plotting against the rest of us. That’s just silly. Business is what keeps all of us employed and productive. Government’s depend on business for revenue. Non-profits depend on business for donations. Without business, there would be no goods or services to buy and no salaries to buy them with. Is business perfect? Nope. Are some businesses evil? Yep, because some people are evil and businesses are run by people. But the mere existence of business does incalculably more good in a capitalistic society like ours than it does harm.

House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastics manufacturer, not a lawyer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon.
Who was the last Republican President who was a lawyer? Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting President, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976. The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work.
The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers.
