With the price of gas where it is…

…I’m not surprised that public transit ridership is up.

But none of the stories that report the increase in mass transit usage ever ask any of these new riders if they like being forced out of their cars and into clinging from a strap on a crowded bus or train while listening to the crazy guy in the Vietnam-era combat jacket next to them mumbling about spiders.

No, Elliot, all that matters is that the bus is there. Doesn’t matter if it’s there on time or simply drives past you, is overcrowded, feels at all safe or generally provides no incentive to ride it other than “you have to.”

And based on the experience you cite above, I’m assuming you’re on the same route I am. Of course, I rarely ever see the driver letting someone in a wheelchair on.

The problem is it’s up everywhere but here. That alone should tell anyone with an IQ of a gnat or greater something is wrong.
