Why do the terrorists seem to be bombing so badly here in the States?

July 7th, 2006

The disruption of a terrorist plot to blow up the tunnel in New York raises a question I’ve been pondering for some time…

…why hasn’t there been another terrorist attack in the United States?

You hear about these grand plans to blow up the Sears tower or collapse the Golden Gate, buy cialis sale but why haven’t the terrorists just opened up with an AK 47 in the Mall of America?

Or tossed a hand grenade into a gas tank farm?

Or randomly kidnapped children and send pieces of them back to their parents?

I’m not trying to be an ass…I just don’t get it.

Why are they always coming up with crazy, difficult plots when there plenty of simpler ways they could create havoc, fear, and uncertainty all across our country?

Why did Hitler commit so many resources into the Ardennes… destroying his army, when committing those forces to German defense could have halted the Allied advance, and perhaps forced a truce?

Why did Hitler commit so many resources to wonder weapons like the V1 and V2, when in reality they had negligable military results?

Here’s an idea…if they really want to wreak havoc, how about releasing a bunch of elephants, grizzlies and tigers in a densely populated city center. That would bring traffic to a halt and send people running and screaming.

It was also save me a trip to the zoo.

The idea is to pull of something grand that can not be missed. A kidnapped child or an AK47 job in a mall is something that can be passed off as random criminality.

Blowing up a building is something else.

Thank Allah that the terrorists are stupid. I’ve been wondering the same thing as you, Elliot. There are so many ways we are vulnerable, but thankfully the dumbasses just don’t seem to be able to pull anything off.

If only I could get the government to give me a few thousand dollars and immunity from fraud and the like, I think we would have a fun little excercise on our hands. I’ve always wanted to be on one of those Red teams that test for readiness. That would be a job I wouldn’t mind getting up in the morning for. As scary as it is, I think my sucess rate would be pretty high.

I’ve wondered why they don’t go after the internet. If some lone hacker from Finland can disrupt business worldwide, think what a concerted effort could do.

We really are sitting ducks for lesser acts of terrorism: mall mayhem, school slaughter, and the like. I guess they just want to maximize the blood-and-fear element, which would maximize media coverage.

Elliot, I don’t think that there is a lot of anti-Americanism in Muslim-American community. The extremist element is only a tiny percentage of the total community. They usually have connections to large terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda. They are more concerned with sending a message by big spectacular attacks than just shooting a bunch of people in a Mall.

I get that Al Qaeda is interested in big splashes, but they seem perfectly happy to blow up an occasional hotel or bus in other countries. Why not here?

Plus, when they blow up the Sears Tower, I say, “geez that’s horrible,” but I don’t get scared because I don’t live near anything big or famous.

On the other hand, rampage through shopping malls in towns like Cleveland, St. Louis, Clearwater, etc… now I feel like nowhere is safe.

You forget Cleveland, St Louis and Clearwater are all in CC states you start to rampage and you likely to get shot by a local now Mayfair mall or Grand Ave you better hope the local gangbangers are patriotic since they will be the only people in the mall with guns.

all kiding aside attacks on targets like malls would be easy at first then when they replace the rent a cop unarmed guards with guards carrying submachine guns those targets become much less viable to attack.

Plus you have to give the FBI some credit how many plots do they quitely break up without the gen pop ever hearing about it.

    Good post Elliot.

The answer to your question has been answered over and over.

Go rent Dr No or The Wrecking Crew or any of the other Bond clones. Planning gets in the way of execution, so to speak. Grandiosity foils performance.
