Whose job is it to find these folk jobs?

June 12th, 2006

Two things struck me about the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel‘s story and editorial about why there is unemployment in Milwaukee while there are plenty of jobs that need to be filled.

1.) Jobs training programs are a waste of money.

As the story pointed out:

But the most crippling shortcoming among the welter of 120 work force development entities in Milwaukee County is the failure to even recognize the employment needs of private-sector businesses that create jobs, generic viagra shop the study concludes.

120? The only people these jobs programs are good at finding jobs for are the people who work for the jobs programs themselves.

2.) Do we live in a communist society? When did it become the government’s purpose to make sure there’s a job for every man and a man for every job?

Did someone find you your career?

Did the government set up a program to get you your job?

And once we except that it’s government’s responsibility to fit people to available jobs, cialis sales buy cialis it’s a short step to demand that government makes jobs available for everyone who wants one whether they are fit or not.

Ummm… do you not pay attention during presidential campaigns? A “job creation” initiative is always the halmark of a presidential campaign. It’s bullshit… but people have really come to expect the government to do exactly that. It’s not a short step… it’s where we already are.

Yet- surprisingly- so many of our unemployed don’t want the jobs that are available. They’d just rather have the hand out and complain that the hand out isn’t enough…

(One more note – Illegal immigrants are doing suprisingly well in these jobs!)
