Tomkat? Brangelina? Beniffer?

April 26th, 2006

Why are we referring to lame celebrity couples by combining their two first names?

We don’t do this in real life.

You don’t refer to your Mom and Dad as Mad. (Well, best viagra there you might. But I know better.)

We didn’t call Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall “Lumphrey.”

We didn’t consider Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy to be “Kancer.”

Maybe it’s time to start referring to people like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as “Tom & Katie.”

Or, better yet, let’s stop referring to them all together.

Actually, my sister and her husband are referred to this way by the rest of the family.

Carrie and Jeremy are now and forever will be Carremy.

Ooo, I think everyone should start calling my husband and me “Owendy.” Too bad I didn’t marry someone named Trent. I could have been Trendy. Oh well. Can’t have everything.

I think Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall should have been known as Humpen.

    Damn you, Nick!!!!!

Nonetheless, I will add the less interesting but slightly more exotic SpencKat.

I love it – it’s mockery masquerading as adulation.

Don’t forget Britney Spears and Kevin Federline – Britvin? Kevney? They’re trying to get him to sound more hip as K-Fed, but I think soon Britney will realize that since she’s hooked up with him she has no career and much less money, and he’ll be Fed-ex.

I think you stole this post idea from someone Elliot… I won’t name names though… *Cough*(Me)*Cough*.

(That’s OK – I consider this half my blog anyway!)

Melinda made the initial observation. I made it into a viscious comment on modern America. We all play our parts. ;)

Elliot, I think Melinda’s got you.

And after having to debate other issues with her, I don’t feel sorry for you one bit.
