This makes me want to give Gene Simmons a big KISS.

From a Billboard interview with Gene Simmons:

“The record industry doesn’t have a f*cking clue how to make money. It’s only their fault for letting foxes get into the henhouse and then wondering why there’s no eggs or chickens. Every little college kid, viagra usa thumb every freshly-scrubbed little kid’s face should have been sued off the face of the earth. They should have taken their houses and cars and nipped it right there in the beginning. Those kids are putting 100,000 to a million people out of work. How can you pick on them? They’ve got freckles. That’s a crook. He may as well be wearing a bandit’s mask.”

Technology giveth and technology taketh away. Music – – mere vibrations in the air! – – was monetized by the invention of recorded media that could be packaged and sold (it would be hard to imagine a group of mop-tops getting rich enough to afford trips to visit the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the basis of live gigs and sheet music sales alone). Technology and its limitations made people ridiculously rich.

Now that music cannot be so easily monetized the worm has turned – – and maybe this is the way it’s supposed to be. A great melody, nice riff, and ability to occasionally put words together in a clever manner – – – these things are great, but no longer five-mansions-and-a-private-jet great.

I’m a guy who buys music online, but I’m ASTOUNDED that artists like Fall Out Boy – – given their tech-savvy, hack-happy following – – are making any money whatsoever, never mind getting rich. How is that still happening?

    Bitter writer talking …
