The best song ever from a Milwaukee artist

August 31st, 2006

Some people might argue for Closer to Free by the Bodeans or maybe Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes, cialis generic generic but – while I like both – few songs anywhere can compare to the nearly perfectly written and performed Watercolor by Willy Porter.

I like Willy, and I’m looking forward to the CD release show later this month at the Pabst. I remember being able to see him out at the Cafe Carpe, when it was me and my wife and a half-dozen others all sitting just a foot or two away. It was amazing. I once saw him with LJ Booth, too.

However, the best songwriter in Milwaukee right now, hands-down, is Peter Mulvey. I’d take any one of the songs off Peter’s new record over “Watercolor” any day. Or the last record. Or the one before that.

Hey Jay, I usually just assume you’re wrong ;)

    But, damn, he’s good.

Not sure I’d take anything I heard over Watercolor, but I’ve got to tip the hat to you on that one.
