Sometimes, even I appreciate government

April 21st, 2010

A friend of mine has Celiac disease (a very dangerous auto-immune disease triggered by wheat) and a son on the Autism spectrum.

Recently, best viagra cialis sale the Feds have required manufacturers to clearly label any ingredients in foods that trigger any of the 10 most common allergic reactions (including wheat). This has made my friend’s life much easier and safer.

Likewise, viagra Wisconsin now requires health insurance companies to include coverage for Autism therapy in the policies they sell. The therapy is having an almost miraculous effect on my friend’s son.

See? I don’t think all government is evil. (Just 95% of it. ;)

The only money that’s wasted is what is spent on someone else, right?

That’s certainly the Tea Party line.

    Exactly right!

Though, I will point out, that neither of those required a lot of direct cash outlay from the government.

Yeah, but what about the jobs that were lost because companies were required to describe their ingredients? The endless requirements to stay compliant? The government agents who verify the labels, not to mention their Cadillac benefits and huge pensions? The God-given freedoms that were squashed and trampled? The Founders are rolling over in their graves. Surely they intended for celiac sufferers to deal with the consequences of their disease without the aid of government.

Heard on the Dennis Miller show yesterday and it’s worth repeating.

The only two things government does well.

    1. Nothing
    2. Overreacting

That same statement applies to 95% of all people, not just government.

It’s people. Government is made out of people. They’re making our government out of people. Next thing they’ll be breeding us like cattle for food. You’ve gotta tell them! Government is people! We’ve gotta stop them somehow!
