    Don’t be surprised, Elliot. Have you already forgotten Dahmer, who was considered sane despite killing and eating people?

    The difference is between the legal and the clinical definitions of insanity. The only difference between legal sanity and insanity is whether the person knew what they did was wrong. This, I believe (I’m not a lawyer), is usually shown by if the person tries to hide their deed. Clinic definitions is much more broad and can cover a wide spectrum of behaviors.

    As for what it takes, I guess that is a matter of perspective. Liberals think most conservatives are insane, conservatives think most liberals are insane, and libertarians think everyone (maybe even themselves?) are insane. ;)
