Random, odd, and horrible thought

In pre-Civil War America, buy cialis stuff man often had sex with their slaves and consequently fathered children.
What I’ve never been able to understand is how those men could then keep their own sons or daughters in bondage.

Likely because, at that time, slaves weren’t seen as people. They were property, end of story.

But their own children? At least, Thomas Jefferson freed the slaves suspected to be his sons and daughters.

You’re assuming that all of those children were allowed to survive?

I think the act of owning slaves results in a sort of moral decay in the owner; it dehumanizes a part of the human race in their eyes, and so all human life is cheapened in their world.
Just my opinion.

Ah, but Elliot. You’re thinking in 20th century terms. Try to put yourself in 18th or 17th century thought. Yes, there were the beginnings of a moral revolt against slavery, but many white europeans thought themselves superior to those of the more backward coloured peoples. This is what many are doing today. They are looking at the past with todays eyes, rather than attempting to think as they did then. That’s why it’s wrong to dismiss the founders because they owned slaves at a time when it was the norm. Back to your original question. Yes, even their own children would have been seen as inferior because they weren’t ‘pure’. They may have been treated marginally better, or not, but, they wouldn’t have been treated as an equal.
