Racism is what I say it is.

September 26th, 2007

Whenever I hear an African-American say it’s racist when someone calls them “polite” or “articulate, viagra capsule ‘ I know I’m dealing with someone with whom I will never agree.

There are some liberals in the Cheddersphere that I feel like I can have a rational discussion with: Jay Bullock, buy cialis view Capper, find Grumps, and Other Side all come to mind. We won’t necessarily agree, but I can at least understand where they are coming from.

But then there are people whose worldview is so foreign to me that I don’t think any productive conversation is possible at all.

I’ve met Renee Crawford (the woman who made the post I’m responding to here) and she seems like a very nice person, but we’re both probably too deeply immersed in our own gender and racial perspectives to ever see eye-to-eye.

God, first Dad calls me reasonable and maybe likeable, now this! Oh, where did my neocon dad go wrong!

Anyway, Elliot, recognizing that you are limited in feeling any empathy for others that are “too different” from you, is the first step to figuring out where they are coming from. That in itself is a big step, and shows you to be rather honest in admitting it. Too many people would rather just flail away at those they don’t understand out of fear and/or hatred, instead of looking at their own shortcomings and limitations in the exchange of ideas.

Then “Dad” likes you better than he likes me. We’ve never gotten along. I’m a heathen, you know.

Methinks Dad will soon stop liking me, or finding me as reasonable as he once had. Oh well…

Oh, come on now. I’m a normal enough sort of fellow. Legs in pants one at a time and all that. I’m sure we can find something on which to agree.

You wear pants? See? Now, right there we’re different. ;)
