More legal immigrants, please.

May 1st, 2006

Have I mentioned I love legal immigrants?

In fact, cialis buy sildenafil I want to make it a lot easier for legal immigrants to become citizens.

My favorite idea is to automatically offer citizenship to every non-citizen who graduates from an accredited U.S. institute of higher education.

Presto:

Less brain-drain.

A more-educated workforce.

And a more diverse society.

There’s only the matter of how they come by that education if they aren’t yet legal. You’d have to provide some oversight if you allowed a preliminary status while they study…

    Sorry for the misunderstading, T.

I wasn’t referring to “illegals” who go through the U.S. educational system.

I was alluding to the many foreign students who legally attend U.S. colleges.

They are the ones I want to offer citizenship to.

Elliot, I really like your idea. These foreign students get very good education from their home country. Even in college, they have to pay their own tuition. So in effect, we get very educated people without spending any money on their education.

Rayman, we don’t apply that standard to people like me who were born here. I guess I haven’t earned my citizenship.

Even better: Proffer citizenship to those graduating students who are here on Visas, then let them sit on a board that determines eligibility from the rest of the set pools. I think they’d have some interesting criteria for immigration.
