McGee? Right? Really?

June 2nd, 2006

In his reaction to Michael McGee Sr. saying that:

‚Äúwhite folks don‚Äôt mind [the violence on Milwaukee‚Äôs streets], sildenafil viagra because it isn‚Äôt happening in their neighborhoods. The Alderman then added that the only reason they [white people] are mad now is because of the shooting at South Shore Park.”

Patrick at Badger Blogger said:

What a ridiculous statement.

As odd as it feels to say it, I actually think McGee has a point.

Not that white people don’t care, (I myself have posted at least 1/2 a dozen times on the situation in the inner city.) But I think it’s true if it were happening in Tosa or Oconomowoc, the white citizens in those areas wouldn’t tolerate the democrats bullshit about “guns being the problem” for a second.

We’d demand cops everywhere and we’d get them. (Case in point: Mayfair Mall.)

He probably is right. But as usual, he tries to twist it into a racist statement. It’s not about race, it’s about locality. It’s about something immediately affecting you. This is natural.

I have a hard time agreeing with any of it. We are not allowed to enforce the law when it comes to the black community. Really, we aren’t. And white people aren’t welcomed or allowed to do the things that will actually HELP because they are coming from “us”.

I still don’t think all the police presence helps at Mayfair. I avoid it at all costs, unless it’s 11:00 a.m. on the weekend, or I have an event or a big meeting and have to pick up a suit or appropriate shoes or something.

I understand how you feel, Phel. But I still think if there were 20 shootings in Wauwatosa in a weekend, you’d be shocked by the effectiveness of the response.

And I, too, have said the heavy police presence at Mayfair makes me uncomfortable, but it did stop the trouble.

Sorry, we didn’t get to talk much at the Spring Fling, btw, but the love of my life doesn’t like it when I talk with other pretty ladies. ;)

BTW – Mayfair really is fine. Anytime you get a bunch of teens together – of any color, creed – without propoer supervision, there’s bound to be a problem. Mayfair has corrected the problems that led to the unsupervised teen invasion.

Now- It’s unjustified paranoid people I think that are a bigger problem now.

Honestly- Phel – has anything ever happened to YOU at Mayfair? Didn’t think so…
