In America…

May 2nd, 2006

Political decisions are supposed to be decided by votes.

Not rallies.

Boycotts.

And protests.

(Like the ones we just saw in France and which often happen in Central America.)

If American politicians pander to the people protesting for amnesty for ILLEGAL immigrants, best viagra cialis sale they will be encouraging other groups to undermine the power of the polling place in favor of relying on civic unrest as the way to get things done.

We will no longer be a democracy. We will have become a demonstracity.

People in this country have always used protest and marches to get their voice heard. You are correct about voting but unfortunately we cannot vote on the laws being passed. Yesterdays march was to voice our disagreement with the current bill. Not at all like France and other Central American protest that are VIOLENT, since yesterdays protest was NON-violent even the 3 anti rally protesters where peaceful. Besides we all know the elected officials at the rally yesterday where their for political gain. The democratic party has always claimed the Latino vote and they had to show up yesterday to keep the fa?ßade.

Ruben – I actually agree and disagree with you.

#1 – Protests are a key part of our democracy. It is a key way of being heard – especially since I don’t believe those norrmal channels of communication with our politicans (writing letters, attending rallies) work very well at getting through to them.

#2 – I disagree that people here illegally in this country should be able to use our system of democracy … and our system of peaceful protests … to change our laws.

What if the French snuck through our borders by the millions? Do they get to demand to become Americans too? How about Russians? Nowegians? Chinese? Canadians?!

If so… let’s make it clear to all the documented immigrants here and in the future. Forget the legal channels… The best way to get citizenship is to follow this three step process:

    1. Spend the next several years sneaking thousands or millions of your fellow countrymen into this country.

    2. Convince the media to call you “undocumented” instead of “illegal” – then to simply drop the “undocumented” part altogether.

    Finally…

    3. Hold peaceful demonstrations to show how many of you acutally snuck in and demand your “rights”.

    Poof – Instant American Citizenship.

What a smack in the face to all those “documented” immigrants trying to become citizens the legal way.
