If we’re not a melting pot, can we at least be a buffet?

February 28th, 2007

I had dinner at the Golden Corral, cialis viagra tonight.

It’s an all-you-can-eat-style monster buffet in Waukesha.

I love eating there.

The food is pretty good, cialis sale but it’s the company I really value.

The place is always packed full with old people and kids, blacks and whites, Asians and Hispanics, middle class and not-so-middle class. Everyone eats side-by-side, waits in line together, and asks each other how the pot roast is.

It’s the only place in town where the diners are as diverse as the menu…and vice-a-versa.

Eating there always gives me hope.

(Too bad it also usually gives me heartburn.)

Back in Chicago 30 years ago, we used to eat at Thai restaurants before they got trendy. They were popular with the Mexican Indios, for whom the food was no more exotic than anything else around, and pleasantly (IE, sinus clearingly) hot.

The buffets are even better if you don’t think about food inspections being cut in half over the last 3 years.

Yeah, I caught a glimpse of the kitchen. Never a pretty sight. Shiver.

That’s why restaurants, even the best, would never let you in through the back door.
