I swear I’m thrilled President Obama retook the oath of office
January 22nd, 2009
After Chief Justice Roberts flubbed the swearing in on Tuesday, viagra sales generic I heard some commentators on NPR dismiss the necessity of President Obama retaking the oath to get the words right.
This reminded me that many people think the actual words in the Constitution don’t really matter anyway. They find it easy to overlook phrases like “shall make no law” and “shall not be infringed”. To them, tadalafil if you feel like something is Constitutional, than it is.
I’m encouraged that President Obama apparently thinks at least some of the words written in the Constitutional actually matter.

Yes, but he didn’t use the Bible the second time, so where does that leave us?

This isn’t the first time a president has flubbed the oath of office, and in both prior instances, the president ended up re-taking the oath. I’m just glad Obama did it again so that there’d be no doubt he is in fact the president.

From what I understood, the other two didn’t actually flub the oath, it was more a question of who administered it.

Neither John Q Adams nor T Roosevelt used a Bible. LBJ was sworn in on a Catholic missal.
The book is not the important part of the ceremony. It’s a prop, a macguffin.

There’s no requirement that the oath be taken anywhere near a dusty old book written by psychotic perverts a couple thousand years ago.

Whether it’s required or not, which as I found out after some research, it isn’t, doesn’t mean you have to go characterizing a group of people for believing that the Bible means something. You just can’t help but take a shot at them, can you?
