I got all excited about this headline:

March 20th, 2007

Bill would protect breastfeeding in public

Until I realized they meant for infants only.

I misread. My first thought was, “Who the hell is Bill and why does he care?” Then came the vision of an overweight man in blue tights using his red cape to conceal the barely bare breasts of new mothers sitting on benches in the mall.

So would it be harassment to video a woman breastfeeding in public with a cell phone camera, or just sit across from her and stare in what could be a somewhat creepy way? You wouldn’t be telling them to stop, but I’d bet they feel uncomfortable. Chalk one up to the law of unintended consequences.

Thank you for that image, Wendy. Now I won’t be able to sleep tonight without dreaming of Mammary Man.

Of course, I thought that headline meant Bill … as in, Bill Clinton would protect breast-feeding. That seemed like a no-brainer. Obviously Billy Clinton would support something like that!

Why does the image of fat women in spandex keep me from caring about this bill? If I can’t smoke in a restaurant, then fat women with screaming kids can’t breastfeed within my visual line of site.

    To “Asian Badger”
Your arguement makes no sense. Breastfeeding is GOOD and NATURAL for children. It’s the reason why women have breasts at all.

Smoking on the other hand causes cancer, birth defects, and many, many other health problems. There’s nothing natural or good about it – especially for children. And – I guarantee you that you nature didnt’ give you lungs so that you could smoke.

    To “James” –
You mean to tell me watching a baby breastfeeding is your idea of a sexual turn-on? A mother – more than likely with bloated breasts that are discolored and veiney from milk production – feeding her baby – is erotic? That’s kind of sick.
