I thought we were past this Obama the Savior meme:

Discovered at Althouse.

Having seen my fair share of crosses… I do agree with many of Althouse’s commenters, that it it is a square cross, mostly associated with:

    1. First Aid – ie… the Red Cross, or a First Aid Kit
    2. The Swiss Flag… maybe he’s declaring neutrality or surrendering!

A Christian Cross, in general, is longer on the bottom than at the top… after all, it’s hard to crucify someone on a square cross.

    Totally get that, Nick.

But considering the history of Obama iconography, it’s hard to assume that the image is complete innocent.

Plus, it’s not clear if the cross continues out of frame on the vertical axis.

And, lastly, how does any of that explain the halo of light around his head?!

Given that the photographer seems to have been going for a silhouette the “halo” is the corona that results from backlighting.

The square blocks are a simple bit of refracted light in an interesting pattern.

The “messiah” meme is the result of fevered imaginations.

Now, if Obama was to use a comparison to God to explain away the TelePrompter…

It’s a good thing we’ve never actually had any politicians who purposefully wrap themselves in the flag and link themselves to Christian imagery and metaphor.

I know what you mean, Foust. But it’s just ginchy when Vicki McKenna does it.

As for who promotes this “meme”, is it the conservatives against Obama, or is it Obama’s supporters? I see the conservatives promoting it far more often.

Nick, to your PhotoShop eye, do you see what I see? Apart from the White House at the bottom, which looks like a reflection, the cross looks like a lens flare or an artifact of a rectangular element within the lens, and it has rectangular edges like it was a giant JPEG distortion, which would normally wash-out the image – yet it lightens Obama’s white shirt, as if it were overlaid. Either we’re seeing post-processing or a weird reflection.

If only there were some sort of recognized symbol for “medicine,” then we could have avoided this whole confusing situation!
