Going, going, Gonzales?

August 27th, 2007

I’ve been listening to the coverage of the Attorney General’s resignation on National Public Radio.

And, discount viagra look while I’m no fan of the man, viagra canada I had to wonder how quickly we would have heard the word “racism,” if the first Hispanic Attorney General had been appointed by a Democrat and Republicans were calling him incompetent and a liar.

    Trick question, right?
Or did you mean “when and if” a Democrat administration appoints a “minority” to a post other than Surgeon General?

You forgot Ron Brown… wasn’t he Secretary of Commerce? And Federico Pena who was secretary of something or another.

    Right.
That sets me strait….sec. of state (2), AG vs. surgeon general, commerce sec. and transportation sec.

Well there was Madeline Albreight (sp?) who was both an immigrant and a woman. First female Sec. of State if I recall.

I’m actually not trying to compare or contrast rolls. But I also don’t diminish them just to make a silly argument.

Albreight was bashed quite a lot if I recall when she was Sec. of State by the Republican controlled Congress for some things she did during the Kosovo fiasco.

If I recall when she was appointed, there were even those who said it wasn’t appropriate to nominate a woman to the post because many countries (especially in the Middle East) might have a hard time dealing with a woman in that role.

And as i recall, some people where (and are) questioning sending condi (i’d spell the name wrong if i tried).
i dont think its a “silly argument” to point out, that, as elliot observes, one would have to wonder how many calls there would be of racism when reality trumps it.

and i hate to be the one to break this to you, but in my world “immigrant” is not a minority.
    …..but that’s probably just me. ;-)
