Did I just hear that?

September 5th, 2012

On NPR’s Talk of the Nation, I just heard Howard Dean predict there would be another recession if we re-elect Barack Obama.

I swear to God, (no matter how much someone claims I’m quoting him out of context), that’s what he said.

The absolutely weirdest part is that he meant it in a good way.

I think we are going to have one no matter who is elected. Things have gotten to the point where it doesn’t matter whose plan we use, the economy is going to crash.
    Just my opinion.

Possible, but I have two things to say to that:

1.) I believe that if Romney wins a lot of companies who have been keeping their cash on the sidelines will relax and start spending again. That will provide a huge boost and possibly avoid another free fall.

2.) You NEVER say that electing your guy is going to result in another recession. (Of course, he said it NPR so you’ll never hear about it again anyway. I’ll be surprised if they don’t scrub it when they post the audio.)

So you believe corporations both A) have the sole power to control the economy and B) are choosing to keep unemployment low and the economy at a low rate of growth simply because there’s a Democrat in the White House?

And you see nothing wrong with this and want corporations to have even more unrestricted power?

    “keep unemployment high” rather.

I don’t think they’re doing it maliciously. I think they’re stockpiling money because they’re not sure what’s going to happen. I think with a friendlier face in the White House, they’d be more positive about the future and looser with their money.

It’s just a feeling and since there’s no way to test both possible outcomes (either Obama will win or Romney will win and whatever happens might have happened no matter who won), we’ll never know if I’m right or wrong…which is sort of the place I’m most comfortable in life. ;)

It’s all about demand. If they were selling product, they’d hire and spend. And not until.

    Good grief Debunked. Over-react much?

Companies, in a free society, are free to choose whether they hire people or not…whether or not they spend cash on investment or equipment.

Of course, Obama and his followers find this offensive. It’s why we need to “fundamentally transform” America, right?
