A quick note on commenting

November 14th, 2007

My favorite part of blogging is the reader comments.

I like interesting conversations.

And feisty commentary.

I want you all to feel free to say whatever you want.

My only request is that when you’re commenting, viagra buy rx you always treat the other people in the thread as if you were sitting across from them sharing a beer.

Feel free to disagree passionately with me and each other, but try to remember that the other person isn’t evil…just wrong. ;)

Thanks!

What is the proper response to a bully, in your fictional saloon or in our all too real comment threads?

  • 2. Elliot  |  November 14th, 2007 at 9:26 am

My hope, Grumps, is that there will be less bullying if everyone tries to be respectful of each other.

I think people should savage each other’s ideas. I’d just prefer it if folks tried to remember that the other commenter is a real person not just words on a screen.

I’m actually a very, very angry person (and I love to swear), but because of that I try especially hard to control myself when writing here and on other people’s blogs. And the nature of the Net makes even innocuous comments seem a lot harsher than intended.

In the end, I’m only really asking that folks try to make the discussions a little less personal (and take them a little less personally.).

    Elliot-

You forgot the disclaimer…If they disagree with me, they are wrong, evil and big poopyheads!

I always figure that when commenting, you are a guest in someone’s house; behave accordingly. You can disagree with other guests, but there is no excuse if you act like an asshole about it.
    Just my opinion.

I just recently got into deleting comments on my blog and finally banned a commentator. The commentator was nothing more than a troll whose only purpose was to hurl insults.

In the history of my blog there has been some sharp disagreement leveled at me but it was on topic and was at least had a purpose other than simple insult (some such comments are also bundled with insult).

As was recently wrote by some other blogger. You come and comment view it as coming into my house and talking with me. If you come to just insult and cause problem I will throw you out of my house.
