After changing the law to keep a Republican Governor from appointing a new senator…

…the Democrat-controlled legislature in Massachusetts is changing the law back so the Democratic Governor can appoint a Democratic replacement for Ted Kennedy.
At this point, I think they should just write the law as follows:
“If the Governor is a Democrat he shall have the power to appoint a replacement Senator, otherwise a senator will be appointed by the Democratic National Committee for him.”

I actually like the idea of the governor appointing a placeholder who is prohibited from running in a special election to be held within a few months. That way, the people get both a senator and am election.

Jay, the idea in istelf is a good one. So why didn’t they do it the first time? Also, don’t you have a problem with the way they did this? Doesn’t it strike you as even a little bit wrong that they did it this way? If the shoe were on the other foot, I sure would.

All the more reason to support Feingold’s proposed constitutional amendment to get rid of the political shenanigans.

There’s still room at the October 4 Jefferson County fundraiser for Feingold, Wiggy. It has a presidential recipe theme. I’ll be making the Obama’s mac-n-cheese for the dinner.

Yeah, I know, I had my suspicions about that recipe in the Sun-Times . I’m sure you did, too. There’s no mustard in the white sauce! Heaven knows Obama puts Grey Poupon on everything.
Feingold and his supporters walked in Sunday’s Gemuetlichkeit Days parade here in Jefferson. They all have nice blue t-shirts with a skeletal spinal column on the back. I think he winked at me when he walked past.
