While I understand the annoyance…

August 8th, 2008 Elliot

…when the press seems quick to point out the party affiliation of Republicans when they get in trouble but not so quick when it’s a Democrat, I have to say I doubt most people will have a hard time concluding that the African-American Mayor of Detroit is a Democrat…even without help from the press.

It could have something to do with the fact that Michigan’s mayors, like mayors in this fair state, are elected in non-partisan elections.

Like we have non-partisan elections for judges here in Wisconsin, Jay? ;)

Well, yes, actually. The press never referred to Gableman or Ziegler with (R) after their names during those elections or discussing their scandals. No one writes Mayor Tom Barrett (D) or Mayor Larry Nelson (D), either.

You’re looking for ulterior motives where none (likely) exist.

Actually, I wasn’t! The guy who wrote the post I linked to was.

My point was that you don’t need to see the D to know the guy was a Democrat…just like we didn’t need to see the R to know Gableman is a Republican.

(And really, you’re sophisticated enough to know there’s no such thing as a non-partisan election in a hyper-partisan world.)
