Map out your dead

May 22nd, 2008 Elliot

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has created an interactive map that tracks homicides in Milwaukee for 2008.

If you sort that map by race, you learn some interesting things.

1.) It’s good to be Asian in Milwaukee.
Number of Asians killed in Milwaukee so far in 2008: 0.

2.) It’s safer to be Hispanic than White.
Number of Hispanics killed in Milwaukee so far in 2008: 3

Number of Whites killed in Milwaukee so far in 2008: 5

I don’t think this post is racist, but what do I know?

I’m not even sure what “racism” is anymore.

It would be inaccurate to say that “it is safer to be Hispanic than white in Milwaukee.” These are just absolute figures. They do not take into account the size of each of these ethnic/racial groups in Milwaukee.

On a per capita basis, you’re probably right, Tim.

According to 2000 census numbers, there are only 2.5 times as many blacks in Milwaukee than Hispanics, so considering there were five times as many murders of blacks than hispanics, Elliot’s point that it sucks to be black stands.

Your post is far from racist, I was just anticipating the reaction of the loonies.

And, it really sucks to be a pink bubble with a black dot in the middle, apparently.

I am not concerned about the leadership fools in Milwaukee. What really concerns me are the fools that put them in office. Sad
