What is it with A-List bloggers?

October 17th, 2007 Elliot

In a discussion about comments on blogs, nationally-recognized law school blogger Ann Althouse writes:

A good commenter isn’t just a would-be blogger. He’s not just mooching off someone else’s hard-won traffic.

Although Ann isn’t saying it herself, it kills me when I hear the accusation that someone is “mooching off someone else’s hard-won traffic.”

Where did that hard-won traffic come from except from the author commenting on other people’s blogs, linking to other people’s blogs, and being linked to by other blogs?

There isn’t a divine right to traffic. And trying to build a readership by participating in other people’s comment sections is NOT mooching.

I’m just leaving a comment here to mooch off of your traffic. Just as an example. I hope you don’t mind. I know you worked hard to win your traffic. ;)

I actually won my traffic in a court settlement.

    Or was it a lottery?

    Either way. ;)

Are you guys/gals referring to Stevie Winwood Traffic or Jimi Hendrix Crosstown traffic.

Quality beats quantity. Or so I’m told.
