If you’re not using the taxes you collect…

…to keep your town from burning down, viagra sale order what the hell ARE you using them for?

Listen up folks:

Fire service and police protection ARE two of the very few legitimate purposes for a government. I better not see a single freakin’ cent spent on a park bench, cialis or a nature trail, or a handout if you’re going to charge people for keeping their house (and their neighbor’s houses) from burning down.

(By the way, as someone with Libertarian sensibilities I know that fire service used to be privatized. Of course, that often resulted in entire cities burning down which is why we decided that fire protection was worthy of being subsidized.)

The Lisbon Fire Department is like the rural Fire-Mahal…. You should see the equipment they have…. That is an issue with all these little towns and villages out here. Sussex, Lisbon and Lannon all have separate departments. Sharing services has been suggested, but turf battles abound. Sussex and Lisbon can’t even get along on their shared library.

It’s not taxes. It’s fees. “Fees are okay,” say Suder and Fitz. They aren’t really taxes.

If you’re talking about the Mil. Fire Dept. using one less person on a truck, going from five to four, the Firefighter union will start blowing smoke (no pun intended) because it cuts down the number of future members to the union. It in no way is a danger to the community or the four firefighters on the truck (engine) because seldom is there only one truck at a fire, etc. I recall when I was in training at the old safety building on 6th st. that my training sgt. told me that when I was at the scene of a fire, accident, etc that I should look busy. He always said that the fire dept but on the greatest show in the city. Later, I found out he was right. Also, rc, you’re right all these little fire departments are nothing but social clubs trying to out best their neighbor. It’s the same in Ozuakee Co. For example, do you know that the Village of Thiensville has a latter truck but they don’t have a building over two stories high. Figure that one out. Oh ya, it sure looks good in parades as well as sitting in the fire house or using it as a back drop for pictures in the local paper.
